The Organic food option

We are living in world of multiple options, we have access to an almost infinite selection of products and services. As this make sounds good and exciting, it also brings some difficulties. We need to understand that in order to make a good choice when looking for a product, we need first to get well-informed on several issues, as for example; right prices, quality of the product, availability and customer services. In regard to food, we need to decide what kind of good qualities we want to be present in our food. The problem is that we don’t really know what are these good food qualities. During the past 20 years, we have just started to learn about calories, cholesterol and fats, and more recently we are now learning about trans fats, anti antibiotics, pesticides and GMO products.

I want to explain about organic foods and what they can offer. Organic products are produced by organic farming. Standards for organic farming means that it practices the cycle of their resources, promote ecological balance and conserve biodiversity. These farmings producers also limited the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers and avoid the use of anti antibiotics. The production of organic food is usually processed by not using; irradiation, industrial solvents or synthetic food additives. As you can see, they avoid the cheaper industrial production of food, which in return caused that organic food are more expensive than regular food. Organic food have several benefits, but I want to only focus in two of these benefits, that they do not have anti antibiotics and that they avoid the use of synthetic pesticides.

The use of antibiotics is causing a huge problem in our digestion system, please read my article ” Why are we overweight ” to see a better explanation of these problems. But is general the use of anti antibiotics affects the healthy function of your digestive system. Now how big are the harmful effects of using synthetic pesticides in our food ? this is not clear yet. We know that high exposure to harmful chemicals can cause health problems. The Federal environmental Protection (EPA), the food and Drug administration(FDA) and US department of Agriculture (USDA) they all play a role in regulating and measuring pesticides levels in our food. But still many studies have showed that eating an organic diet can reduce children’s exposure to pesticides. I do recommend getting informed and learn about the food options out there. I think that if we can reduce the level of anti antibiotics and non needed chemicals in our body we are giving a boost to our health in general.

We are what we eat, our immune system is the best protection that we have against diseases and health problems. It will be in our best interest to keep our immune system as healthy as we can. In today world we need to acknowledge that many scary diseases are affecting millions in our population, as for example, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson, diabetes and Autism. It is particularly alarming the proportion on how these diseases are growing in our society. Alzheimer’s disease was first diagnosed in 1906 and today affects over 5 millions people in the US, Autism went from 1 in 2,000 children fifty years ago to today 1 in 59 children, diabetes and obesity is on the rise amount children and it will cause them huge health problems. In conclusion, we need to start paying attention to the quality of the food that we are eating, it will require educating ourselves and our families on getting good food choices and healthy habits.
